Red and yellow and pink and green, purple and orange and blue! Now that I’ve got you humming ‘I can sing a rainbow’ I can tell you about the new makeup trend that you wont be able to avoid this coming season. Yes, even if you wear shades you can’t miss it; Colour is back. And in a Big Way.
Wardrobe-wise you’ll be coming over all peacock-like and strutting around in glorious royal blues and turquoises with shots of coral. Emerald greens consort with canary yellows. Purple reigns with scarlet red as it’s second in command. But what to do with your makeup when you are adorned so colourfully?
You have two choices. Either let your clothes do the talking and play it demurely by going for a basic nude face. Keep your skin tone natural and define your eyes with flesh tones and taupes, use a pale bronzer in place of blush and keep your lips peachy toned and balmy.

But the most exciting option is to rise to the colour call and use some bold tones. There was a kaleidoscope of jewel shades on the runways. At Etro we saw purple eyes, turquoise lids with scarlet lips at Loewe and a beautiful hot pink mouth as the only focus at Jill Sander.
Without doubt, my favourite trend is the neon lip. As a makeup artist, I think this is actually the most wearable for us mere mortals and the easiest to get right. Everyone knows about the transformative power of a red lip but my personal favourite is a bright pink pout. It is so much fresher and contemporary for the coming season. The effect these fuchsia tones have on brightening your skin tone is remarkable. Wear a lipstick such as Impassioned by MAC for full drama or try a gloss like L’Oreal Glam Shine in Candy Juice for those less brave. Keep the rest of your look minimal with nude eye shadow, curl the lashes, define the brows, add a slight highlight to the cheekbones and you’re all set to sing a rainbow.
Shrinking violets need not apply!
