How to be Irish

HOPE EVERYONE IS HAVING AN AMZING ST PATRICK’S DAY!!!

I’m writing this from the airport, heading to London for a bit. Mostly back in Ireland though. I just did this little project with RTE for a show that will be broadcast on later on today at 7.30pm on RTE. Basically the jist of it is the public send in videos of themselves doing something that is typically Irish, and these will make up the show.

I took a break from university on Thursday and flew to London for the day to shoot for Ralph Lauren. Below you’ll find a fantastic video from the day for their Rugby Tweed Run, produced by the equally fantastic Crane TV. The Rugby Tweed Run takes place on November 26th.

So for the last few weeks I’ve been working on a pretty exciting project for the Swatch-MTV Playground blog, doing little interviews, blog posts, and lots more. I’m the 4th Guest Editor after the photographer Rankin and designers Fred Butler and Alex Noble, so pretty big shoes to fill!

Ireland’s Top Designer

John Rocha, Philip Treacy, Paul Costelloe, Peter O’Brien, Mia O’Connell, Emma Manley & Eilis Boyle were just some of those shortlisted for Ireland’s Most Influential Designer 2010.

There are also quite a number of designers in their twenties on the shortlist, which is a testament to the vibrancy of the industry despite harder times for fashion, not just in Ireland, but globally.

There is of course one glaring omission: Ciaran Sweeney.

Coco Rocha, Rootstein and Faye Dinsmore

So now I have my own mannequin. Rootstein make mannequins that appear in the world’s major fashion houses, department stores and boutiques. For over 50 years they’ve been basing their models on what they see as the emerging faces and bodies of the industry. Many moons ago they plucked Twiggy from obscurity, more recently their mannequins have been exact body doubles of Erin O’Connor, Agyness Deyn, and of course, in 2008, Coco Rocha!
